DawnMarie Smith is the current assistant head of middle school at Cary Academy and in her 28th year of teaching middle school math. She joined the faculty at Cary Academy in 1998 as a sixth grade math teacher and advisor and added the role of assistant head in 2006. Prior to joining the faculty at Cary Academy, Dawn taught middle school math in Chatham and Orange County public schools. Dawn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the State University of New York-Cortland and her Master of Education from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Dawn is an experienced teacher, trainer, and presenter with a demonstrated history of commitment to personal growth and innovative changes. With over two decades of teaching experience, Dawn’s expertise includes educational leadership, curriculum design, staff development, classroom management, middle grades education, budgeting, coordinator, and fostering a growth mindset. As a Microsoft Certified Educator, Dawn delights in incorporating innovative technology along with a growth mindset into her teaching.
