THE FACTS COMPASS ADVANTAGE

Purpose-Built for the Way SGOs Operate

Choosing FACTS Compass means partnering with a team that has supported scholarship and financial aid operations for forty years.

Built for SGOs

Purpose-built for the operational work of running a scholarship program. FACTS Compass is infrastructure for organizations that run their own programs.

Connected to Schools

More than 13,000 schools are already in the FACTS network for financial aid, tuition, enrollment, or student information. FACTS Compass connects into that same network.

Backed by FACTS

A new platform built on what FACTS has learned running scholarship and financial aid operations for schools, dioceses, and networks across the country over the past forty years.

FACTS Compass

How Compass Supports Scholarship Programs

FACTS Compass supports the work of running a scholarship program, from donor contributions and family applications at launch to award management and fund distribution as the platform grows.

Donor Contributions

Accept and steward donor contributions with compliance built in

Compass captures tax-credit donor contributions, manages designation logic, generates compliant receipts, and produces donor reporting aligned to Federal Scholarship Tax Credit requirements. Powered by FACTS Giving, the donation infrastructure trusted across the FACTS network.

  • Tax-credit contribution intake and processing
  • Donor designation and recognition logic
  • Compliant receipting for the federal program
  • Donor reporting configured for program and audit needs

APPLICATION AND ELIGIBILITY

A scholarship application designed for families and for auditors

Compass delivers configurable family-facing applications, household and income intake, document verification, and eligibility determination against the 300 percent AMI threshold. IRS integration streamlines income verification for families and reduces the manual documentation burden on your team. Every determination is documented and retained for audit as part of the normal workflow.

  • Family-facing applications configured to FSTC eligibility
  • IRS integration for streamlined income verification
  • Income verification aligned to 300 percent AMI regional thresholds
  • Decision documentation and audit-ready record retention

AWARD MANAGEMENT

Make and communicate award decisions with confidence

When award season opens, FACTS Compass will support making decisions, communicating with families, and managing the ongoing work of returning students and renewals as programs mature.

  • Award decision tracking and family communication
  • Renewal eligibility and re-verification workflows
  • Returning student priority and sibling award logic
  • Decision documentation for audit

FUND DISBURSEMENT

Move scholarship funds from awards to schools with full reconciliation

Fund management extends Compass shortly after launch, connecting scholarship awards to school remittance, reconciliation, and the financial reporting your board and auditors expect.

  • Award-to-school fund remittance
  • Reconciliation between awards, disbursements, and schools
  • Financial reporting for SGO governance

THE FACTS COMPASS VISION

A Platform for Every Part of the Scholarship Program

Scholarship programs coordinate donors, families, schools, and compliance every day. FACTS Compass is being built to support each of those relationships in one platform, launching with donor contributions and family applications and extending over time into the full scholarship program lifecycle.

It brings four decades of scholarship and aid experience to SGOs preparing for the federal program.

  • Donors making tax-credit contributions with compliant receipting
  • Families applying with confidence and seeing decisions clearly
  • Schools receiving awards in the systems they already operate
  • Operations flowing into audit-ready records

Frequently Asked Questions

The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC), also called theEducation Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC), is a federal income tax credit that supports K-12 education scholarships through private donations to state-approved Scholarship Granting Organizations. Donors receive a dollar-for-dollar federal income tax credit of up to $1,700 for contributions. SGOs use the funds to award scholarships for qualified K-12 education expenses. The program begins January 1, 2027.

Preparing for the Education Freedom Tax Credit is significant work for any SGO. It touches governance, donor infrastructure, application design, school relationships, family experience, and operational compliance including the 90 percent allocation rule and audit readiness. The FACTS EFTC Readiness Playbook walks through each of these areas with practical guidance and action-step checklists your leadership team can use to assess readiness and assign ownership.

SGOs evaluating platforms should look at how the platform handles donor contributions and receipting, how family applications and income verification are configured, how award decisions are made and communicated, how scholarship funds are distributed whether to schools or through family-directed models, and how records are retained for audit. Consider how the platform integrates with the systems participating schools already use. Ask vendors what is live today, what is on the roadmap, and how they support SGOs during launch and beyond.

Yes. FACTS Compass is built for SGOs whether or not your participating schools are in the FACTS network. SGOs whose participating schools use FACTS Financial Aid get the added benefit of family information carrying forward when those families apply.

Organizations considering the Education Freedom Tax Credit can participate in three ways: forming a new SGO, operating through an existing state or national SGO, or serving as a participating school within another SGO's network. The right choice depends on your organization's mission, governance capacity, funding scale, and appetite for operating a scholarship program directly. Forming your own SGO gives you control over award criteria, donor relationships, and program identity. Partnering with an existing SGO reduces administrative load but transfers those decisions. FACTS Compass is built for organizations running their own programs, though we work across the SGO ecosystem.
