K-8 ESL/ELL Interventions

Teaching English Learners (EL) requires expertise in the four core areas of planning, instruction, assessment, environment and engagement while at the same time demonstrating a command of research-based best-practice EL strategies and tools. As important as the legal compliance issues and standards are, it is paramount that EL teachers display a high level of cultural awareness and responsiveness. This coupled with allowing students to select approaches to learning through various groupings and interactions with an emphasis on reading, writing, listening, and speaking, will provide students with a supportive environment that celebrates their language as an asset and leads to intended learning outcomes.
